The Future Starts Now
June 10, 2006
Let's start with the basics. This blog is an effort to develop a set of politics that mesh my insurrectionist anarchist tendencies with my futurist and transhumanist interests. After 15 years of anarchist organizing — ranging from infoshop/dual-power projects to militant anti-fascism — I find myself in a political lull. Looking towards the future, I can't help but see the approaching Singularity and wonder how the convergence of accelerating intelligence and technology will impact revolutionary prospects. I find the bio-conservative trends in some anarchist tendencies to be quite reactionary, just as I find most transhumanist politics to be hopelessly liberal and unrealistically optimistic, especially in their assessment of corporate "ethics" and the threat posed by the revolutionary right.
I'm not much of a theorist — I prefer a practical, pragmatic, hands-on approach to politics. I'd rather be in the street than reading revolutionary books. But I also realize the importance of strategic planning and understanding the opposition. I expect this space to be a random assortment of interesting links, short theoretical rants, and news with commentary — the usual blog stuff. Aside from trying to synthesize modern anarchist self-activity with transhumanist concepts, I'll be looking at a bunch of related topics: open source insurrection and system disruption, destroying religion, bio-ethics, eco-catastrophe, mutualism and social networks, undermining primitivism, and more.
